I first came across the A.A. Maximov Hematology and Cell Therapy Department of the National Pirogov Medical Surgical Centre that specialized in the state-of-the-art treatment of hematological, oncological and autoimmune diseases, via an editorial in of all places in The Cavan Celt!! which told of the story of a young man Darren Bishop from Castleblayney who had just recently being diagnosed with MS (RRMS the Relapsing, Remitting type) but was intent to go to Russia for HSCT and was seeking to raise the funds to do so...
We subsequently got to know each other and Darren as the true pioneer, 1st Irish person to go to Russia, has been an invaluable source of help and inspiration.
Through Darren I managed to get in touch with some other Irish people intent on going to Russia to avail of the same treatment and so I created a group on Facebook 'The HSCT Irish' 2 of which have now done the treatment and are well on the road to recovery from the treatment!

Sometimes it can be difficult to just find fellow PPMSers, so one american lady, Vicki Wilson who has literally been through the entire process as a PPMS patient receiving HSCT and continues to log her progress on her most invaluable site www.kickinms.com - It is remarkable!!!

I met Darren Bishop in Granard and he showed me a photo album that of his entire experience and totally put my mind at ease about the care that he received through the entire process, after which I put my name straight down on the waiting list
